At Temple Beth Israel there are many opportunities for each and every congregant to be involved in a number of ways in the TBI community. In addition to the TBI Sisterhood, Brotherhood, Chavurah, Caring Community, Israel Committee, and Social Action Groups, there are the following ways to get involved.
Membership Committee
Finding a new home for your family includes a new home for your spiritual being. The membership committee welcomes new familes into our congregation with warmth, understanding, and love.
Library Committee
This energetic group of members has created a lively home for the thousands of books that get checked out by both young and old. A weekly exchange program for the chiildren in Religious School allows them to browse the selection with the hlep of a knowledgeable assistant.
Building and Grounds Committee
Are you one of the lucky few that can turn a screwdriver, paint a wall, or help specify what kind of garden to plant? The Building and Grounds committee has their hands full updating, fixing, and planning. Please contact the committee chair, Dan White, if you like to lend yours skills or support
Israel Committee
The TBI Israel Committee works with the Rabbi, other members of the staff, and Board of Trustees to inform and educate the congregation and the broader community on matters pertaining to Israel and to develop resources and sponsor programs that can achieve this goal.
The committee is guided by the following principles.
- The committee supports Israel as a Jewish and democratic state, whose existence is based on the historic connection between the Jewish people and the land of Israel, the principle of self-determination, which includes the right to a national homeland for the Jewish people, and recognition bestowed by the international community.
- In agreement with the URJ, the committee affirms the understanding that Israel is a central tenet of Judaism, both historically and in the present.
- The committee welcomes members with differing perspectives Israel. While the discussions the programs may represent differing viewpoints, in most cases the committee itself will not advocate for or against specific positions or policies.
All TBI members are welcome to become members of the committee and assist on its important work. If you would like to participate, please contact Gary Gilbert.
